To save you some time, we’ve searched the internet for the latest news in solar farm projects and other renewables. Grab your coffee, here’s the industry must-knows for the week 24/10/22 edition):
- The Federal Government’s 2022-23 Budget has major investments to transform Australia’s energy landscape, including landmark projects and reforms, affordable renewable energy policies, and investments in large-scale storage and transmission for long-term reliability whilst creating jobs and training in the new industries. (Energy Magazine)
- A team of researchers from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) has proposed a novel cost-effective way to recycle silicon solar panels. (PV Magazine)
- Professor Martin Green from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, has become the first Australian to win Europe’s prestigious Millennium Technology Prize for his work transforming the production of solar energy. (RenewEconomy)
- One of the most difficult tasks is to use renewable energy to decarbonise Australia’s industrial sector. One potential clean, renewable energy source is concentrated solar power or CSP systems. (Energy Matters)
- EnergyAustralia has endorsed Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia’s (HVIA) plans to electrify their fleets and build charging infrastructure around Australia. (Energy Magazine)
- The path to a clean energy future in Australia is becoming clearer, but the transition brings with it many challenges that need solutions. ((Eco Generation)
- With the world in the midst of the first global energy crisis – triggered by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine – the World Energy Outlook 2022 (WEO) provides indispensable analysis and insights on the implications of this profound and ongoing shock to energy systems across the globe. (IEA.org)
- Renewable Energy Is Slowing the Rise of Carbon Emissions. Renewable energy generation, led by solar and wind development, is set to ramp up by more than 700 terawatt-hours this year, which would be the largest annual rise on record, according to the IEA. (Smithsonian Magazine)
- The idea of using gas as a transition fuel could be dead in Europe, with research showing operating a gas power plant at current average fuel prices is 10 times more expensive than building new renewable generation. (RenewEconomy)
Our shot of the week (from the Meralli archives) is from Kanowna (Bullarah, New South Wales). Completed in 2019, the Kanowna solar farm may be on the smaller side in terms of size, but the 9 MW project located near Moree has been touted as one of Australia’s smartest solar farms. The project features both DC optimisers and DC coupled battery for central inverters.
