We’ve checked all four corners of the internet for the latest #renewables news (so you don’t have to). Here’s the gist (13/9/21 edition):
- Joining an ever-growing list of Australian enterprises committing to renewables, Boral is aiming to shift its electricity needs to 100% renewables by 2025 (via Renew Economy)
- Solar has helped Woolworths Group cut 97,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, according to Solar Quotes
- And in a huge surprise to no one, the Australian govt has rejected calls to phase out fossil fuels (Energy Magazine)
- We’re really excited about the potential for community batteries (particularly in regional areas (Energy Magazine)
- And on the subject of distributed energy, apparently there’s a new inverter standard designed to improve grid stability (via ecogeneration)
- Via the University of New South Wales: ‘Renewable energy is often hailed as the future, but some might also wonder why it’s not already here yet’. And yes, that’s a damn good thing to ponder … what are we waiting for?
- Wait, what? NSW households could pay as much as $60 extra per year to cover a $2 billion blowout in the cost of a new transmission link to take power supplied by the Snowy 2.0 hydro project (Sydney Morning Herald)
- Ross Garnaut has been talking up a zero-emissions industrial economy for Qld towns including Gladstone, Townsville, Georgetown (and our personal favourite) Barcaldine (via InQueensland)
- And in the best quote of the week (via solarquotes.com.au) taken from States With The Most Renewables Have The Cheapest Wholesale Electricity ‘This is good news for anyone who prefers clean energy over dirty. That is everyone who isn’t evil, an idiot, or both.’
