Here’s a quick update shot from the Meralli drone on progress at the Tregalana Solar farm at Whyalla (SA) and yep, that’s the Steelworks (Wikipedia) in the background. Once pegging is complete, the team will move on to panelling (you can see 30 panels already installed on the top left of the completed component of the array).
When complete it will pump out 3MW of clean green energy with local households able to purchase through a unique buying mechanism (more on that at a later date). It is expected to be the first of a two-stage development and will contribute to SA’s growing renewables sector – a year ago renewables made up 55.5% of SA’s total power production, in the past week it’s sitting at 62.7% (Source: OpenNEM).
